A Britten Recital: Catherine Robbin / Colin Ainsworth | Glenn Gould Studio, Toronto
Songs and duets of Benjamin Britten

date: February 8, 2002

In our 20th anniversary season, it was essential that we devote a recital to some of the finest vocal music of our ‘signature’ composer, Benjamin Britten.  The centrepiece here was the  second Canticle, Abraham and Isaac, which received a stellar performance from our two soloists.  As well, they each contributed a song-cycle.  We began with a group of familiar realisations of songs by Henry Purcell and ended with folksong arrangements (including one of the duets arranged for tours of the English Opera Group in the 1950s).
