Songs, song-cycles and duets in English, German and French

The concert, introducing two talented young singers from the University of Toronto’s Opera School, began and ended with English theatre songs, from the 17th and 20th centuries respectively. Between them, we presented two rarely heard cycles and two looser groups of songs. On the eve of Remembrance Day, Cornelius’s cycle of mourning and comfort was relevant, as was the sentiment of Strauss’s well-known Allerseelen.
