After our auditions for the Discovery Series resulted in an ensemble of two sopranos and a mezzo from the University of Toronto’s Opera School, we excitedly took the plunge and designed a first half entirely of duets, with the voices in the various different possible combinations. The second half presented each singer in a group of Lieder, further setting off the voice types available; the concert finished with two operatic trios by the composer who understood the female voice, perhaps, more than any other: Richard Strauss.
