Scenes from Childhood – July 23, 1988 | Sharon Temple, Sharon, ON
Music from, or about, childhood

date: July 23, 1988

This concert was created for Music at Sharon (at that time, a festival taking place in the historic Sharon Temple, 50 km north of Toronto); it incorporated some widely diverse music from Germany, Russia, France, England and Canada.  The soloists included a talented boy treble, Jesse Clark.  A variety of literary and poetic readings linked the musical items.  The first half concluded with Britten’s Canticle II: Abraham and Isaac, and as a balancing (and secular) conclusion, we commissioned a new work,  Nicholas Knock, from Derek Holman, setting an intriguing narrative poem by Dennis Lee.  The programme was repeated (with one change of soloist) in Walter Hall, November 1988.
