Thé chantant – July 5, 1998 | Imperial Room, Royal York Hotel, Toronto
Music associated with the act of tea-drinking, and the time of day (afternoon) when it occurs

date: July 5, 1998

Commissioned by the National Association of Teachers of Singing for their annual conference, our concert followed a theme which had often suggested itself to us, but never been taken up:  the music associated with teatime (the time of day when our concerts normally took place).  A very wide selection from the French, German and English repertoires resulted in a programme which took us from the act of drinking tea to the wider implications and events of the afternoon when tea-drinking takes place.  Schubert, Debussy, Ireland, Youmans and Randy Newman show how varied was the repertoire.
