The Lady of the Lake, and other tales: the 12th Greta Kraus Schubertiad | Walter Hall, Toronto
Schubert's settings of songs from Sir Walter Scott's The Lady of the Lake, together with other stories in song

date: January 24, 2010

Our twelfth Schubertiad in memory of our beloved friend and mentor began with a complete performance of all the settings Schubert made of songs (in German translation) from Sir Walter Scott’s long, narrative poem The Lady of the Lake.  Substantial extracts of the poem were read between the songs by actor Raymond O’Neill in order to maintain the continuity of the story.  Past and present vocal students and other members of the Faculty of Music, University of Toronto, provided the chorus as required.  The second half of the concert included some ballads and other stories in song, including Schubert’s Der Zwerg, Die Forelle and Erlkönig.
