We seized the opportunity when Steuart Bedford was in town (conducting Britten’s Death in Venice for the Canadian Opera Company) of bringing together, for the first time, our three Honorary Patrons’: Catherine Robbin, O.C. (distinguished mezzo and singer in many of our earlier concerts), Christopher Newton, C.M. ( Director emeritus of the Shaw Festival) and Steuart Bedford. They had each chosen some of their favourite music for us and introduced it from the stage. An unusual feature of the concert, much enjoyed by the audience, was the performance of several pieces for piano, 6 hands, by the Artistic Directors with maestro Bedford, who also introduced (and accompanied) several songs by his composer grandmother, Liza Lehmann. As an added item, therefore a surprise for the audience, Ms Robbin performed one of her favourite songs, The Lark in the Clear Air.
