An English song recital

We were happy to present two fine young singers from the University of Toronto’s Opera School. After three 16th and 17th century duets, this entirely English recital featured some of the finest songs by Ivor Gurney and Gerald Finzi. Five settings by Britten of Auden’s poetry in the second half were followed by six very varied Warlock songs; the evening concluded with two duets, the second of which was the entertaining The Mermaid, a folksong setting by the English accompanist and friend of the Artistic Directors, Roger Vignoles.
